Nguni River Voyager on the Zambezi River system

While prime tiger time on the Zambezi is regarded as late May through July, water levels are often unpredictable and wind driven cold fronts can play havoc with results. When our group boarded the houseboat after a perilously late river transfer due to an Air Botswana puncture ( don't ask ) the cold wind cut through everyone and waves slapped loudly against the hull through the night.

The next day the fishing was slow and the wind relentless. Everyone got into their casting slowly and the gin and tonics flowed. The next morning the wind had died, the air temperature noticeably warmer and the fishing came alive! Any tiger smaller than 4 pounds fled for the cover of the reeds and the trophy fish came on the feed, everyone landed double figure Tigers on fly, several fish in the 12 to 14 pound range and I personally lost a fish at the net I believe was 20 pounds!
