Ngwazi
Lodge is magnificently situated right on the shores of the Pongola dam
also known as Jozini. Excellent tigerfishing is highly dependant on water
clarity and temperatures as well as location and techniques. In 2007 the
Mavungana guide team of Jonathan Boulton, John Thoabala and Collen Tshabangu
fished two days and landed 79 tigerfish up to just under 3 kg.
We will be hosting tiger trips on Jozini from the 6th to the 16th August 2010. Accommodation
and meals are at the magnificent Ngwazi lodge, there are two anglers and
one guide per boat and rates are R2250 all inclusive except for
drinks and gratuities. As long as you are capable of casting three quarters
or more of a 8 or 9 wt sinking line you are guaranteed of excellent tiger
fishing under the watchful eye of Jonathan Boulton and his crew. Places
limited to 6 anglers at a time, booking essential.
Situated
within the Pongola Game Reserve South in Northern Zululand, 350 km north
of Durban, 450 km south east of Johannesburg and 270km south of the Kruger
National Park.
Nkwazi is set on a hillside overlooking the Pongola River as it lazily
meanders towards the Pongolapoort Dam and is the perfect place to combine
the excitement of Tiger fishing and game viewing with the tranquillity
of the bush and panoramic views.
The reserve caters for the discerning nature lover, offering game drives,
boat cruises, guided walks, rhino tracking and canoeing.
The
lodge accommodates 32 guests in twelve twin en suite thatched chalets
and two family chalets consisting of a living area, 2 bedrooms with twin
beds and en suite bathrooms. All chalets have air conditioning, mini bar
fridges and tea & coffee facilities. Cuisine is typically South African
with a variety of venison dishes prepared and presented in the boma or
open plan dining area overlooking the river.

Report back August 2009
Even with some very mixed weather, fishing was exceptionally good the
wind really blew and made drifting the shore a little tricky. Fish numbers
were up and average size the best ever. Every angler who came caught his
first tiger on fly some highlights including first fly on tigers for Bruce
Dickinson, Dave Coetzer, Frank Olivant, Anton Borkum ( 2 over 2 kgs )
and George Minnaar two over 2 kgs and the best fish of 3.5 kgs

Report back September 2008
Weather was great except one afternoon we were driven off the water by
a freak wind storm pushed by a massive veld fire. Rod average was 7 fish
per angler per day. The largest landed by Hennie Fourie - 2.2 kg. Everyone
including myself can honestly admit to dropping huge fish, early morning
up by the old railway bridge we found massive female fish and all had
a chance before boat traffic and sunrise dispersed them. Congratulations
to Graeme King who hooked himself squarely in the cheek, he put up an
excellent fight before being released... These hosted days are available
from 21 August to 24 August and 11 September to 21 September 2009. Check
