Although not a JAM fly, this pattern is a variation of the increasingly popular grunter pattern called the JAM fly.
Named after its three creators, Jannie Visser, August Lohan and MC Coetzer, the JAM fly was designed for Grunter in the Breede River. It’s one of the newer South African flies, but is incredibly effective.
Now, one will find dozens of variations tied with one or two hooks, using either foam or sculpting fiber for the body. What makes a JAM fly what it is, is the silicone sheeting used on the top of the pattern to imitate a prawn more accurately. Regardless, it works!
This particular variation incorporates a section of foam which makes it more buoyant.
