The Best Tiger Fishing on the Zambezi River
We have been chasing tigerfish on a fly since the late 80’s – wow, how things have changed! This is one of our all-around favourite trips. Three different river systems at the very best time of year. The flood waters of the Zambezi move down the system like a wave. The resulting floodplains are a nutrient-rich rearing ground for juvenile fish and when the flood waters recede the smaller fish are pulled back into the main channel where the voracious, larger tigers wait.
Timing is crucial, based upon historical flood levels it’s a bit of gamble as to which month will fire better, May, June, July or August. And where? – early-season, on the main river above Golden Pond, mid-season, False Kasai and Kasai confluence or late-season, in the rapids. Choices choices choices!
We make our call and prebook the best weeks.
You will be accompanied by an experienced host who rotates amongst the boats, giving advice on the tackle for tiger fish, techniques for tiger fish and generally helping to get the job done.
