We had the MOST amazing adventure with Jonathan at Ichingo Lodge! My son, Keaton, and I were on a very special trip to Africa together to celebrate his 10th birthday. We are a fishing family and it was important to us that we find a way to do some fishing even though most of the trip was planned around safaris and sightseeing. Jonathan architected the most amazing 2 day adventure for us. The logistics seemed a bit daunting at first but they ended up being part of the fun (end everything went flawlessly) and arriving at Ichingo and meeting Jonathan was well worth the small effort. We did not know what to expect when we arrived but Jonathan was there to great us along with warm hearted staff at Ichingo. They fed us a delicious late lunch and we were off to fish! Jonathan was incredibly patient with Keaton who is new to casting a fly rod and was determined to have him get off some good casts in very fishy water. Jonathan’s patience and teaching paid off—Keaton caught the tiger fish of a lifetime!! I of course had a few shots at them too, hooked some great ones but only Keaton was going to land a monster that day. What an incredible 10th birthday experience for both of us! We returned to the lodge to much congratulations (and showing of pictures) all around to the staff and guests. We had an incredible cook out dinner outdoors that evening and Keaton was “honored” with the biggest fish award—normally accompanied by a shot of local liquor…his was soda pop! We fished a half day the next day before heading on with our journey through Africa. When I listen to Keaton tell the story of this amazing trip he always describes the most special part, the one with most awe and energy, as that amazing visit to Ichingo with Jonathan and that tiger fish. We will be back!!
