Our private trophy catch and release ( C.A.R ) trout waters, Dullstroom. Producing double figure fish every year, for over 20 years.

THE TROPHY WATER

  • The 3ha lake contains some massive trophy rainbow and brown trout. Our most challenging stillwater, the Bird of Prey lake will test any angler’s ability. A multitude of channels snake their way through the dense offshore weed beds. For this reason accurate presentations with nymphs and streamer patterns are required and nerves of steel are needed when a trophy trout attempts to run you into the weed.

TACKLE & TACTICS FOR MONSTER TROUT

  • Waders and being able to cast a full fly line highly recommended! We recommend a floating line to present flies in the channels and hoes in the weed . Fin perfect trout of over 8 pounds have been landed frequently, and the possibility of landing a brown trout is always a treat. The lake has a magnificent food chain as a result of the extensive weed beds. As a consequence massive dragon fly patterns are hugely successful. In addition impressive evening rises result in spectacular dry fly action.

HOW IT WORKS

  • The fishing is strictly Catch and Release ( C.A.R.). We allow a maximum of three anglers and no float tubes guarantee a great walk and stalk experience. For this reason booking at the Mavungana Flyfishing Centre Dullstroom is essential. We recommend waders so that you can fish over the weed beds and not be limited to the dam wall and the casting jetty. The gate is kept locked an upon paying the rod fee of R450/person and key deposit R200 a key is handed over. Anglers can fish the morning session and head to the village for lunch before returning for the afternoon. We look after our fish and close this fishery if water temperature go over 18 degrees. This all results in the best managed  lowest rod pressured private trophy catch and release trout waters in Dullstroom.
