Invented in the 1850's by Aberdeen fly tier William Murdoch, the Mallard and Claret is named after the colours and materials used to make up this fly. It best imitates a small baitfish and can be fished on a sinking line. Alternatively, you can fish the Mallard and Claret on a floating line in the margins, early morning and late evening when the trout are using the low light to their advantage to ambush baitfish.
