An increasingly popular pattern for Spotted Grunter in the Western Cape is the Ironman, developed by Leroy Botha, this fly incorporates fettuccine foam in a very unique way to create the head of the fly, which in turn also makes it rather buoyant. This variation, although tied with foam, does not incorporate the fettuccine foam resulting in this variation sitting just sub-surface and will create a good wake when retrieved.
We'd fish this pattern on a constant figure of eight retrieve without pausing.
